The European Union (EU) announced on July 23, 2025 a new €12.5 million project that will be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to assist the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in leading recovery efforts, improving security and helping communities in the South. According to the EU, said project will aid the LAF support communities in the South to recover and rebuild by clearing rubble and unexploded ordnance, repairing critical infrastructure and strengthening cooperation with local communities. In addition, Army Commander General Mr. Rodolphe Haykal commented that the EU project represents an important milestone for the military institution as it strengthens the army’s capacity and sustainability. Furthermore, EU Ambassador Mrs. Sandra De Waele stated that the project reflects the EU’s commitment to Lebanon and promotes peace and stability in the region, adding that along with EU Member states, the EU will be providing $600 million to support conflict-affected areas in Lebanon. The UNDP representative in Lebanon Mrs. Blerta Aliko also noted that the UNDP will continue to aid the LAF and local communities to arrive to lasting peace, recovery, and inclusive development. Finally, it is worth noting that the EU project is part of the “Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding” signed in May 2025 between the Ministry of National Defense, the UNDP, and the UNSCOL to coordinate international assistance for the LAF.
أعلن الإتحاد الأوروبي بتاريخ 23 تمّوز 2025 عن مشروع جديد بقيمة 12.5 مليون يورو سيتمّ تنفيذه من قبل برنامج الأمم المتّحدة الإنمائي لدعم الجيش اللبناني في جهود التعافي وتحسين الأمن ومساعدة المجتمعات في الجنوب. وبحسب الإتّحاد الأوروبي، سيساعد هذا المشروع الجيش اللبناني في مساعدة المجتمعات في الجنوب لجهة التعافي وإعادة الإعمار من خلال إزالة الردم والذخائر غير المنفجرة وإصلاح البنى التحتيّة الأساسيّة وتحسين التعاون مع المجتمعات المحليّة. وقد علّق قائد الجيش السيّد رودولف هيكل أنّ مشروع الإتّحاد الأوروبي يشكّل محور مهمّ للمؤسّسة العسكريّة كونه يعزّز من قدرات الجيش وإستدامته. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، أفادت سفيرة الإتّحاد الأوروبي السيّدة ساندرا دي واييلي أنّ المشروع يعكس إلتزام الإتّحاد الأوروبي تجاه لبنان ويساهم في تعزيز السلام والإستقرار في المنطقة، مضيفةً أنّ مساهمة الإتّحاد الأوروبي وبعض الدول الأعضاء في مساعدة المناطق المتأثّرة من النزاع في لبنان قد تصل إلى 600 مليون د.أ. وقد أكّدت ممثّلة برنامج الأمم المتّحدة الإنمائي في لبنان السيّدة بليرتا أليكو أنّ البرنامج سيواصل دعمه للجيش اللبناني وللمجتمعات المحليّة للتوصّل إلى السلام الدائم والتعافي والتنمية الشاملة. أخيراً، يجدر الذكر أنّ مشروع الإتّحاد الأوروبي هو جزء من مذكّرة التفاهم الثلاثيّة التي تمّ التوقيع عليها في شهر أيّار 2025 بين وزارة الدفاع الوطني وبرنامج الأمم المتّحدة الإنمائي والمنسّق الخاصّ للأمم المتّحدة في لبنان لتنسيق الدعم الدولي المقدّم للجيش اللبناني.
