Times Higher Education (THE) recently released its “World University Rankings” for the year 2026 in which it ranks 2,191 universities in the world according to a set of weighted criteria, namely teaching (29.5%), research environment (29.0%), research quality (30.0%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income (4.0%). Two British universities came in the top 5 list namely the University of Oxford which came in first in the world with a score of 98.2 and the University of Cambridge which occupied the 4th place (score: 97.2). In addition, three American universities made it to the top 5 list with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranking 2nd with a score of 97.7, Princeton University reserving the 3rd spot (score of 97.2), and Harvard University the 5th place (score of 97.1).
On a regional level, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (Saudi Arabia) topped the university rankings for the year 2026 with an overall score of 59.7 and an international rank of 184, followed by each of Abu Dhabi University (U.A.E.), Khalifa University (U.A.E.), Qatar University (Qatar), and United Arab Emirates University (U.A.E.) (overall score 56.4-58.6; international rank: 201-250).
Locally, Times Higher Education ranked five Lebanese universities in the THE list led by the Lebanese American University (overall score: 54.3-56.3; international rank: 251-300), followed by the Beirut Arab University with a score of (39.0-43.5) and an international rank of (601-800), each of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik and the Lebanese University with a score of (27.3-32.0) and an international rank of (1,201-1,500) and Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth (score: 10.3-27.2; international rank: 1,501+). It is worth noting that the American University of Beirut was excluded from the local rankings based a decision by the university to withdraw from the rankings over credibility concerns as per a statement dated September 11 published on the university’s website. The Lebanese American University fared best in three criterions namely research environment (score: 32.5), research quality (score: 93.7), and industry income (score: 32.0), while the Beirut Arab University topped the teaching criterion (score: 43.0) and international outlook criterion (score: 88.2).
أصدرت مجلّة التايمز للتعليم العالي (THE) مؤخّراً تصنيفها للجامعات حول العالم للعام 2026 والتي تصنّف من خلاله 2،191 جامعة حسب مجموعة من المعايير المُثقّلة ألا وهي البيئة التعليميّة (29.5%)، بيئة الأبحاث (29.0%)، نوعيّة الأبحاث (30.0%)، النظرة العالميّة (7.5%) والدخل المالي (4.0%). وقد برزت جامعتين من المملكة المتّحدة ألا وهما جامعة أوكسفورد التي إحتلّت المرتبة الأولى في العالم بنتيجة 98.2 وجامعة كامبريدج (الرابعة عالميّاً بنتيجة 97.2). كما وظهرت ثلاث جامعات أميركيّة ضمن أفضل خمس جامعات حول العالم بحيث إحتلّ معهد ماساتشوستس للتكنولوجيا المركز الثاني (نتيجة 97.7) وجامعة برينستون المرتبة الثالثة (نتيجة 97.2) وجامعة هارفارد المركز الخامس (نتيجة 97.1).
أمّا على صعيدٍ إقليميٍّ، فقد تربّعت جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن في المملكة العربيّة السعوديّة على عرش قائمة الجامعات العربيّة بنتيجة إجماليّة بلغت 59.7 لتحتلّ المرتبة 184 في العالم، تبعتها كلٍّ من جامعة أبو ظبي وجامعة خليفة وجامعة قطر وجامعة الإمارات العربيّة المتّحدة (نتيجة إجماليّة: 56.4-58.6؛ تصنيف عالمي: 201-250).
محلّياً، برزت أسماء خمسة جامعات لبنانيّة ضمن قائمة مجلّة التايمز حيث تبوّأت الجامعة اللبنانيّة الأميركيّة المركز الأوّل في لبنان (نتيجة 54.3-56.3 ؛ تصنيف عالمي: 251-300) تلتها جامعة بيروت العربيّة (نتيجة 39.0-43.5 ؛ تصنيف عالمي: 601-800) وكلٍّ من جامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك والجامعة اللبنانيّة (نتيجة 27.3-32.0؛ تصنيف عالمي: 1201-1500) وجامعة القدّيس يوسف في بيروت (نتيجة 10.3-27.2؛ تصنيف عالمي: 1501+). يجدر الذكر أنّ الجامعة الأميركيّة في بيروت لم تُشمَل في تصنيفات الجامعات المحليّة بناءً على قرار الجامعة بالإنسحاب من التصنيفات بسبب مخاوف حول المصداقيّة بحسب بيان صادر بتاريخ 11 أيلول على موقع الجامعة الإلكترونيّ. وقد سجّلت الجامعة اللبنانيّة الأميركيّة أفضل نتيجة في ثلاثة معايير ألا وهي بيئة الأبحاث (نتيجة 32.5) ونوعيّة الأبحاث (نتيجة 93.7) والدخل المالي (نتيجة 32.0) فيما تفوّقت جامعة بيروت العربيّة على نظرائها في ما يختصّ بمعيار البيئة التعليميّة (نتيجة 43.0) ومعيار النظرة العالميّة (نتيجة 88.2).
