The European Union (EU) Council recently adopted the fourth bilateral assistance measure under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to ameliorate the defensive capacities and capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) by providing them with €100 million in assistance, thereby bringing the total EPF support to Lebanon to €182 million. Said assistance reflects the EU’s continued commitment to promote peace and stability in Lebanon, while supporting the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and state-building efforts. In addition, the EU noted that this aid will improve the LAF’s ability to monitor, control, and secure Lebanese territory, as well as ensure the protection of civilians. The EU commented that the non-lethal support package was designed to improve the LAF’s capabilities by providing military equipment and training across five key areas, namely territorial control, multi-domain awareness, maritime security, protection of critical military sites, and healthcare.
أعلن مجلس الاتّحاد الأوروبي مؤخّراً عن إطلاق جولة رابعة من المساعدات الثنائيّة (Fourth Bilateral Assistance) تحت إطار مرفق السلام الأوروبي (European Peace Facility) بهدف تعزيز القدرات والإمكانات الدفاعيّة للجيش اللبناني من خلال تقديم مساعدات بقيمة 100 مليون يورو، ليرتفع بذلك إجمالي الدعم المقدّم إلى لبنان من خلال هذا المرفق إلى 182 مليون يورو. ويعكس هذا الدعم إلتزام الإتّحاد الأوروبي المتواصل بتعزيز السلام والإستقرار في لبنان، إضافةً إلى دعم سيادته ووحدة أراضيه وجهود بناء الدولة. وقد أشار الإتّحاد الأوروبي أيضاً إلى أنّ هذه المساعدة ستساهم في تعزيز قدرة الجيش اللبناني على مراقبة الأراضي اللبنانيّة وضبطها وتأمينها إضافةً إلى ضمان حماية المدنيّين. وأوضح الإتّحاد الأوروبي أن حزمة الدعم هذه أُعدّت بهدف تطوير قدرات الجيش اللبناني من خلال توفير المعدات العسكريّة والتدريب في خمسة مجالات رئيسيّة ألا وهي: السيطرة على الأراضي، والوعي المتعدد المجالات (Multi-Domain Awareness)، والأمن البحري، وحماية المواقع العسكريّة الحيويّة، والرعاية الصحيّة.
