The Lebanese Ministry of Finance (MOF) published its monthly “Public Finance Monitor”, which included, among others, government transfers to Electricité Du Liban (EDL), revealing some $7.96 million annual expansion in the amounts transferred to LBP 455 billion ($301.8 million) in the first quarter of the current year, up from LBP 443 billion ($293.9 million) during that same period last year. This owes to the 2.7% y-o-y rise in the value of gas and fuel purchases from KPC and Sonatrach to LBP 453 billion ($300.5 million) not to mention the $663K increase in debt service to $1.3 million.

It is worth noting that the amounts transferred to EDL constituted 10.40% of the government’s total primary expenditures during the first quarter of this year, compared to a higher proportion of 11.54% in the same period a year earlier.
