The Lebanese Parliament ratified during its latest session a plethora of laws, such as the establishment of a sovereign wealth fund that would receive revenues from any potential hydrocarbon activities. The parliament also passed a law that allows the private sector & municipalities to generate and distribute electricity from renewable energies on EDL’s grid, up to a capacity of 10 megawatts. The parliament also approved a bill to establish a retirement pension system, which would ultimately replace the currently prevailing end-of-service indemnity system. The ratified bill would provide retirees with a monthly retirement salary of 1.33% of the average wage for every year of service. However, this law still needs legislative decrees from the government and it is still unclear how the retirement salary will be financed.
