Lebanon was recently elected for a three-year term to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with its mandate starting on January 1, 2026 after garnering the highest number of votes (183 votes) for the Asia-Pacific region, and was joined by each of Turkmenistan (183 votes), India (181 votes) and China (180 votes). It is worth noting that the ECOSOC is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, comprising 54 member states, with 18 elected each year for overlapping three-year terms, and plays a central role in promoting international development and fostering cooperation across economic, social, and environmental spheres.
إنتُخب لبنان مؤخراً لعضويّة المجلس الإقتصادي والإجتماعي للأمم المتحدة (ECOSOC) لمدة ثلاث سنوات تبدأ في 1 كانون الثاني 2026، بعد حصوله على أعلى عدد من الأصوات (183 صوتاً) عن منطقة آسيا والمحيط الهادئ، كما وإنضمّت إليه كل من تركمانستان (183 صوتاً)، والهند (181 صوتاً)، والصين (180 صوتاً). يُذكر بأنّ المجلس الإقتصادي والإجتماعي هو أحد الأجهزة الستّة الرئيسيّة للأمم المتّحدة، ويضم 54 دولة تُنتخب 18 منها لفترات متداخلة مدتها ثلاث سنوات، ويلعب دوراً محورياً في تعزيز التنمية الدولية والتعاون في المجالات الإقتصاديّة والإجتماعيّة والبيئيّة.
