The Lebanese government recently adopted two key measures for the hydrocarbon sector in a meeting chaired by the Lebanese President Mr. Joseph Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Judge Nawaf Salam. The first revolved around awarding the exploration & production agreement for Block 8 to the consortium of TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy, and ENI, noting that the contract requires conducting 3D seismic surveys during the first three years. The second decision involved the approval of the maritime border agreement with Cyprus. It is worth noting that the parliamentary committee on Public Works, Energy and Water had initially intended to invite experts to provide scientific recommendations related to the maritime border agreement with Cyprus in accordance with international laws and Lebanon’s best interests, bearing in mind that progress accelerated in early July 2025 when the Lebanese President Mr. Joseph Aoun and Cypriot President Mr. Nikos Christodoulides agreed to continue negotiations.
