Lebanon signed a maritime boundary demarcation agreement with Cyprus during a meeting that was held between the Lebanese President Mr. Joseph Aoun and his Cypriot counterpart Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, in a key step towards enabling both sides to engage in offshore hydrocarbon exploration. It is worth noting, in this context, that a preliminary deal was first reached in 2007, yet ratification from the Lebanese side was delayed by the high levels of political instability. The Lebanese President commented that he discussed other issues with the Cypriot President, mainly in the sectors of electricity, telecommunications, tourism and security.
وقّع لبنان إتّفاقية لترسيم الحدود البحريّة مع قبرص خلال إجتماع عُقد بين الرئيس اللبناني السيّد جوزاف عون ونظيره القبرصي السيّد نيكوس خريستودوليديس، وذلك في خطوة مهمّة نحو تمكين الجانبين من البدء في عمليّة إستكشاف ثرواتهم البحريّة. يُذكر في هذا السياق أنّه قد سبق للطرفين أن توصّلا إلى إتفاق أولي عام ٢٠٠٧، إلا أنّ تصديق الجانب اللبناني عليه تأخر بسبب حالة عدم الإستقرار السياسي. وقد صرّح الرئيس اللبناني بأنّ إجتماعه مع نظيره القبرصي قد تطرّق إلى قضايا أخرى لا سيّما في قطاعات الكهرباء والاتصالات والسياحة والأمن.
