A virtual donor’s conference was held on Sunday August 9 to mobilize support for Lebanon in the aftermath of the Beirut Port explosion that rocked the city last week. The conference was co-hosted by the French President Mr. Emmanuel Macron and the United Nations and was attended by some 30 countries in addition to the President of the European Union and representatives of other international agencies such as the IMF, the World Bank and the International Red Cross. According to Mr. Macron’s office, the conference succeeded in raising some €252.7 million ($298 million) in emergency relief, with France contributing some €30 million. Other major contributors include Germany (€20 million), Kuwait ($41 million), the European Commission (€63 million), Qatar (up to $50 million) and Cyprus (€5 million) among others. The pledged money will be channeled directly to the Lebanese people under the supervision of the United Nations.

عقد مؤتمر إفتراضي للمانحين يوم الأحد 9 آب لجمع الدعم للبنان عقب الإنفجار الضخم الذي هزّ بيروت الأسبوع الماضي. وقد تمّ تنظيم المؤتمر من قبل الرئيس الفرنسي السيّد إيمانويل ماكرون والأمم المتّحدة مع العلم أنّ حوالي ال30 دولة شاركت في المؤتمر بالإضافة إلى رئيس الإتّحاد الأوروبي وممثّلين عن منظّمات دوليّة أخرى كصندوق النقد الدولي والبنك الدولي والصليب الأحمر. وبحسب مكتب السيّد ماكرون، فقد جمع المؤتمر تعهّدات بقيمة 252.7 مليون يورو (298 مليون د.أ.) على شكل مساعدات طارئة، مع تقديم فرنسا لمبلغ 30 مليون يورو. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فقد قدّمت ألمانيا مبلغ 20 مليون يورو والكويت مبلغ 41 مليون د.أ. والمفوضيّة الأوروبيّة مبلغ 63 مليون يورو وقطر حوالي ال50 مليون د.أ. وقبرص 5 مليون يورو. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أنّ هذه الأموال ستتوجّه بشكل مباشر إلى الشعب اللبناني وذلك تحت إشراف الأمم المتّحدة.
