The index is calculated using the values of eight other sub-indices which shape the quality of life in a city, namely the Purchasing Power Index, the Safety Index, the Healthcare Index, the Cost of Living Index, the Property Price to Income Ratio (which reflects the affordability of housing), the Traffic Commute Time Index, the Pollution Index, and the Climate Index. Ideally, a city should have a higher score in the Purchasing Power Index, Safety Index, Healthcare Index, and Climate Index, versus a lower score in each of the Pollution Index, House Price to Income Ratio, Cost of Living Index, and Traffic Commute Time Index to enjoy a better quality of life index score. According to Numbeo.com, Canberra in Australia appeared to offer its citizens the best quality of life in the world scoring 225.26 in the Quality of Life Index, followed by Adelaide, Australia (score of 212.14) and The Hague, Netherlands (score of 204.88) only to name a few.
Regionally, Dubai enjoyed the highest quality of life across the Arab World with an index score of 178.96 (global rank: 36), trailed very closely by Muscat (index score: 174.07; global rank: 49), and Abu Dhabi (index score: 173.13; global rank: 50).
