The Jounieh Touristic Port has officially been reopened after three decades of closure on September 9, 2025 under the slogan “Jounieh Touristic Port: A Sea of Opportunities” thanks to a joint collaboration between the public and private sector. The Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Fayez Rasamny commented that the port could represent a strategic link with Cyprus via a 4-hour sea trip, which welcomes around 5 million tourists per year vs Lebanon’s around 1.5 million tourists, thus accelerating the economic cycle for some 400 hotels and guest houses. Mr. Rasamny also thanked the Georges Frem Foundation for its assistance in the project, which compensated for the vacancy at public administrations that attained 90%. Finally, Mr. Rasamny stressed on the importance of having multiple ports, with that of Jounieh serving as a touristic port, the Beirut Port handling import & export operations and the Port of Tripoli being dedicated for transit operations and the reconstruction of Syria.

In a related context, it is worth noting that the 2026 draft budget law has allocated LBP 149 billion for the expansion of the Jounieh Port for each of the years 2026 & 2027, and LBP 149.48 billion for the year 2028, aggregating to LBP 447.48 billion (around $5 million).
