Middle East Airlines (MEA) issued on September 4, 2025 a clarification notice in which it explained that during the summer of the current year, the company suffered from the repercussions of the global engine crisis pertaining to “Pratt & Whitney” engines powering the “A321neo” airbus airplanes which resulted in the suspension of the operations of three such modern airplanes belonging to the MEA fleet. Said engine failure also affected more than 500 airplanes around the world. According to the announcement, MEA was left with the options of either canceling some flights and reimbursing passengers or transferring passengers to other airlines, considering both options as unfavorable, which prompted the company instead to rent three airplanes along with their crews and reschedule flights. Said airplanes were leased from a Lithuanian company registered in Europe that abides by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards. MEA highlighted in the announcement that during the month of August 2025 the company recorded 1,301 flights (111 of which were from the leased airplanes fleet; 8.53% of total flight number) that carried around 337,000 passengers.
